Good acoustics in museums and library settings aim to enhance the visitors experience by creating immersion through minimal distractions.

The Moura Museum and Library in Queensland, Australia, sought to improve the acoustic environment within its spaces to better support both its collections and the experience of visitors. Brisbane Acoustics was selected to provide expert acoustic treatments to enhance sound quality and control noise levels throughout the building, focusing on the library, corridors, and museum exhibition areas.

In the library, the team installed Autex Frontier, a 12mm thick acoustic system, in the Sierra design with a deep Queensland maroon, the Autex Sagazzo colour finish.
The Frontier panels were chosen for their ability to significantly reduce ambient noise and reverberation, providing a more peaceful, comfortable atmosphere for reading, study, and quiet reflection.  The fins were carefully integrated into the library’s modern aesthetic, ensuring that the design remained both functional and visually pleasing.

The museum section, particularly the mining exhibit, required special attention to the acoustics of larger open spaces. To address this, Brisbane Acoustics applied Autex 3D tiles to the ceiling. These sculptural tiles not only absorb sound effectively but also add a visually dynamic element to the space. Their unique texture helped to control reverberation, ensuring that sound was clear and intelligible while maintaining an engaging visitor experience.

Finally, Autex Composition was used throughout the corridors and on the museum walls. This versatile acoustic material was ideal for controlling sound reflection in these transitional spaces, ensuring that both speech intelligibility and overall acoustic comfort was achieved throughout the building.
